WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army Athletic Association announced the hiring of Rick Johnston for the position of Coordinator of Multi-Media and Broadcasting on Monday. In this role, Johnston will play an integral role in the execution of the Black Knights' expanding multi-media arm, ITT Knight Vision.
Johnston is a native of Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated from Ball State University in May 2010 with a degree in telecommunications. For the past two years Johnston was the play-by-play announcer for the BSU men’s basketball team for the campus’ student radio station, WCRD 91.3 FM. Also during that time, he was the sideline reporter for the Cardinal football team for the Ball State Radio Network.
Over the past year, Johnston was a member of the nationally recognized sports immersion program, Ball State Sports Link. He served as the play-by-play announcer for live broadcasts of men’s basketball and women’s gymnastics. He also produced feature stories on Ball State student-athletes and regular updates for the Ball State athletics website.
In June, Johnston was ranked 17th in the country by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America, as a part of its All-America program.
Johnston also worked as a freelance sports producer for WRTV in Indianapolis for the past three years. He aided in the station’s weekly sports show, “Sunday Sports Xtra”, and helped cover events such as the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
