Army West Point Athletics

Wednesday, May 19 - Lacrosse Fever
May 19, 2010 | General
Good morning loyal and faithful Black Knight Blog readers. After a brief power outage, I am starting my blog entry for the second time.
Ryan Yanoshak joining you on this Wednesday morning after a quick nap. For some reason, the power went out around West Point so with a dark office, I took advantage and kicked my feet up.
The boss and the lights have derailed my nap which I guess is your gain.
Since Volk handles our publicity for the lacrosse team, we are going to go ahead and give him a pass for missing yesterday. Since lacrosse is the only team still completing, Volk is among the busies people in the office, setting up interviews, pulling clips, connecting head coach Joe Alberici to various media outlets including ESPN and Inside Lacrosse and putting the finishing touches on his postseason materials.
The lacrosse team, fresh off its win at two-time defending national champion Syracuse, will play Cornell in the national quarterfinals Sunday at noon at Stony Brook University. I am told that the stadium seats less than 8,500 and there are no tickets available. My understanding is that they are selling one ticket for the day which to me seems odd. If they can clear Yankee Stadium between games for a doubleheader, I am guessing they can do it for a lacrosse doubleheader. The one-ticket system is keeping a lot of folks from attending the game which is s shame. I am hoping the Virginia fans (the Cavaliers are playing the second game) show up in droves and cheer on the Black Knights.
It will be an interesting week for the lacrosse players. It's "Grad Week," here at West Point and it is fun to drive in every morning and see the Corps of Cadets practicing for reviews this week on the Plain. The lacrosse players meanwhile are practicing in the late afternoon as they get ready for a re-match with the Big Red. The lacrosse players will partake in graduation ceremonies, participate in their bar-pinning and then depart for Long Island in the early afternoon.
Volk will have a complete game preview up on the site soon so keep an eye on that.
While lacrosse is the lone team still competing, individual members of the track and field team are still competing as well. One of those, Andrew Ferrara, will be featured in a national publication soon. It is a great story and one Andrew so graciously tells. We will post as soon as it runs.
There isn't any sports action until Sunday's lacrosse game but some major announcements are forthcoming. We will announce the Army Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2010 this week and name the Army Athletic Association Award winners during Friday's awards convocation. We should have some news about upcoming football schedules as well.
That's all for me this morning folk. Thanks for reading and Go Army!
