Monday, May 10 - Your Home Of Spring Champions
May 10, 2010 | General
Good morning loyal Black Knights Blog Readers. I begin today with an apology for missing my last post but please note the appropriate fine has been issued.
Ryan Yanoshak joining you on this lovely Monday at the home your Patriot League spring champions. Baseball wins the regular season title, softball sweeps to do the same, women's tennis wins another title and of course you know lacrosse is on its way to the NCAA's after winning the league title.
That's correct: four Patriot League champions in the spring. Throw in a second-place finish for the men's track and field team and men's tennis squad and third-place finishes for golf and women's track and field and it has been a pretty successful spring here at West Point.
I have yet to verify this but I am pretty sure Army is the first school to host the baseball, softball and lacrosse championships, the three tournaments where the highest seed is the host site. Pretty impressive stuff happening alongside the banks of the Hudson River.
You have probably already read Volk's story about the lacrosse team. Head coach Joe Alberici and diary-writing assistant Mike Murphy and non-writing assistant Mac Diange will lead the Black Knights against two-time defending champion Syracuse, Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
The lacrosse action happens later this weekend but plenty of games preceding it.
The softball team, fresh off its sweep of Colgate on Friday, will host the tournament at the Army Softball Complex. Game times and such will be worked out early this week but the action gets under Thursday. Stay tuned to the site for game times.
The women's tennis team begins play in the NCAA Tournament against seventh-seeded UCLA Friday at 1 p.m. PT. The women's tennis team is making their 11th appearance in the tournament. More details later this week as well as Tracy's postseason guide.
The baseball team, fresh off a regular season crown, begins its pursuit of a league tournament title Saturday against Bucknell in a best-of-three series at Doubleday Field. BB will have details and notes later this week.
The cadet-athletes are in the midst of Term-Ending Exams do it's quiet until Thursday's softball.
Thanks for reading and Go Army!
