Thursday, April 8 - Coffee Anyone?
April 08, 2010 | General
Good morning Black Knight Blog readers. Tim Volkmann coming to you on a gorgeous day at West Point. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, Shak doesn't seem to be too grumpy - it is shaping up to be an all-around good day.
I've got an extra burst of energy going from the cup of mocha chocolate coffee I just drank so I figure I'll knock out my blog entry right now while the caffeine is still coursing through my veins. I got a new coffee maker for my birthday last month and I've been putting it to good use. I've never really been a big coffee guy before, but sitting a seat over from Mr. Coffee himself (Shak) for almost three years has apparently made me crave the stuff on a regular basis by osmosis.
I went shopping yesterday and picked up a bag of some mocha flavored stuff that has proven to be quite delightful. I never noticed until recently how many different types of coffee you can buy in the store. There was an entire aisle yesterday of varying strengths, tastes and flavors that I've never even noticed. It is kind of funny how much super markets enable certain addictions, or in my case start them. Don't worry...I can control it.
I've got two main things on my plate right now. I've been finishing my game notes for this Saturday's lacrosse showdown at Bucknell. The Black Knights have had a really roller coaster season thus far, including last week when they suffered through a tough loss at Hofstra on Tuesday, only to bounce back with a huge Patriot League win versus Colgate in overtime on Saturday on a beautiful day at Michie Stadium.
The guys have adopted a mantra of "keep hammering away" no matter what happens, and it seems to be working well. I was over in Truxtun Lacrosse Center the other day and there is a huge rock in the middle of the locker room with a hammer on it. By the looks of all the dust around the rock, it looks like the guys have been doing just that. Junior goalie Tom Palesky gave me my very own piece of the rock that I'll have with me the rest of the season, including this Saturday when Army travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on conference-nemesis Bucknell at 8:00 p.m.
Next week, is the REAL big one as we'll be traveling to Baltimore for the Day of Rivals showdown at Raven Stadium with Navy. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. on ESPNU. Buy your tickets here.
If you didn't already see it, assistant coach Mike Murphy has started penning a weekly blog of his own entitled "Thinking Outside The Box" that has received rave reviews. Click here to check out Coach Murph's ramblings thus far.
I'm also working on some different things for next week's NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships that we are hosting here at West Point. It is hard to believe that it is already here. Seems like we were just having our first organizational meeting about it over a year ago and now we are less than a week away. Crazy how fast time goes.
Check out a preview of next week's championships here.
Well, I'm starting to fade a little bit. Guess the caffeine is wearing off, so I better wrap things up and go make another cup of java. Have a great week everyone. Talk to you soon.
GO ARMY - BEAT EVERYONE!
