Monday, April 26 - Just Another Manic Monday
April 26, 2010 | General
Good morning and happy Monday Army blog fans! Tracy Nelson tickling the keyboard today. I've made my mighty return from the Sunshine State (a little vacation in the middle of April never hurt anyone!) and I have to say the batteries are recharged and ready to go for May. It's hard to believe that is coming up on Saturday. April has flown by in a hurry.
As I returned this morning, I was greeted with one Mady Salvani in the midst of a photo shoot here in Bldg. 639. Yes, you read that correctly. Since a description from yours truly doesn't seem like it would do it justice, I wanted to provide photographic proof of this delightful session. However, I was denied and had to go without. Mady spent her morning completely dressed in the Army pinstripes and warming up for Wednesday's Hudson Valley Baseball Classic. I called upon head coach Joe Sottolano to offer her services against the fighting Marist Red Foxes at Dutchess Stadium. While I'm on the topic, don't forget about Wednesday's game! It's a great time here in the Hudson Valley - after all, tickets are FREE! Come out and see Army vs. Marist in the Hudson Valley Renegades ball park in Fishkill, N.Y. For more info click here. Don't' forget about the free clinic with players from both teams prior to the game. Click here for a registration form. If you want to see the game in style, check out our most recent auction experience. I think that's enough shameless plugs for today! See you at the ballpark!
This spring continues to be one of the most successful for the Black Knights in nearly every sport. As I was sitting at Doubleday Field yesterday, Shak and I were talking about the fact that there's a pretty good chance Army will host the baseball, lacrosse and softball Patriot League Tournaments this spring, which is absolutely incredible! Baseball locked up hosting rights after taking 3-of-4 from Lafayette this weekend. Lacrosse, meanwhile, became the first team in Patriot League history to go undefeated (6-0) in conference play and will host the four-team tournament at Michie Stadium this Friday (semifinals) and Sunday (championship). Softball is still at the top of the league standings with one final weekend series at Bucknell (May 1-2) to go. Of course, Mady is already talking about where they can put the trophy when they win the tournament. It would be the first time Army softball would host the Patriot League Tournament, so mark your calendars in advance for April 13-15 at the Army Softball Complex. (fingers crossed to that I didn't just jinx them)
With all this talk about other sports on the move, my spring sport is women's tennis and the Black Knights pulled off another thriller over Bucknell last weekend, winning 4-3 over their archrivals yet again. Paul Peck and his crew are off to the NCAAs again in 2010. They will learn of their postseason fate during the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Selection Show, slated for next Tuesday, May 4, on ESPNews. First round action is set for May 14-15 at campus sites to be announced.
It's been a busy spring thus far both on and off the field for our office. It's hard to believe that we're merely weeks from graduation (May 22). Things are winding down in a hurry. My work has centered around the 2010 Black Knight Awards, which are set for Sunday, May 16. The awards show is in its third year and takes on an ESPY Awards show feel. The entire show will be broadcast on ITT Knight Vision. Click here to sign up today! Other than that, I don't want to let the cat out of the bag too much, but for your loyal blog reading, I'll give you a little taste. I think Army fans around the world will be VERY pleased with my other big project - a redesign of www.goARMYsports.com! It's been a very exciting learning experience going through the process. There's no official launch date yet and we're in the earlier stages of the project. Stay tuned for more ...
Well ladies and gents, my "To Do" list isn't going to do itself and it's currently staring me in the face. I think that's going to do it for today. Enjoy the rest of your weeks and as always, GO ARMY!!!
