Tuesday, April 20 - Hockey, Auctions And Championships
April 20, 2010 | General
Good morning loyal Black Knight Blog readers. Ryan Yanoshak with you on this lovely Tuesday morning, wondering why these 65 and sunny days never happen when there is home baseball.
Volk summed up everything yesterday as our spring sports continue to excel. Not only did the women's tennis team win another Patriot League title - six in a row if you are scoring at home - but the baseball and softball teams both swept four games and the lacrosse team beat Navy.
Hopefully Army's success in league championships will continue this weekend when the golf team travels to Hamilton, N.Y. Interim head coach Lt. Col. Rob Kewley has done a great job and the team appears to be peaking at the right time. Check back later this week for a preview of the championships and keep an eye on ITT Knight Vision for a feature on senior captain James Raymond and interviews with some of the golfers.
The men's tennis team meanwhile is looking for a league championship of its own this weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. Dallas will have a preview later this week.
As always, I bring my posts back to hockey and auctions. First, the auction site has some great new items. One experience I am hopeful people will bid on is for the WPDH Hudson Valley Baseball Classic. The package just went up yesterday but it includes four pre-game picnic tickets, an on-field element, the honor of one person throwing out the first pitch, four seats in a luxury box, commemorative t-shirts, autographed game programs and a great way to enjoy a showdown between the Hudson Valley's lone Division I baseball teams. To visit the auction site, click here.
Speaking of the WPDH Hudson Valley Baseball Classic, it is set for next Wednesday, April 28 at Dutchess Stadium. If you haven't registered your child for the clinic, please do so ASAP to ensure they receive one of the limited t-shirts. To learn more about the HVBC, please click here.
Pretty sure if I omit hockey from an entry, it's a fine. Last night, the hockey team held its annual banquet. You can read the story and see the award winners by clicking here. As you would imagine, head coach Brian Riley and Director of Hockey Operations do a great job putting this together. In addition to honoring the Officer Representatives, parents, family and friends and those who have assisted the hockey program, the team hands out several awards and invites families back to present them. Forgive me for not knowing first names but Mr. Gunning gave a wonderful speech before handing out an honor for his son and Mr. Hines recited a passionate speech about his son, Derek, prior to distributing his award. Last night just showed how close the Army Hockey Family is.
A busy Tuesday for the Black Knights with the lacrosse team at Lafayette, baseball playing a non-conference game at Hofstra and softball traveling to Temple.
Go Army (and the Flyers!)
