Thursday, Feb. 25 - Thoughts From A Couch Potato
February 25, 2010 | General
Well folks, the meteorologists were correct - it's a blizzard out there! Happy Code Red to all of you ODIA employees if you happen to be reading. Of course, Code Red doesn't apply to everyone as there are still games to be played/prepared for, etc. I am one of the lucky ones today and am able to get away with working from home ...
That being said, Tracy Nelson joining you all today from the comfort of my couch. I'm in sweats (of course they are Army!) head-to-toe and even got an extra hour or so of shuteye this morning before my cat decided that it was time to rise and shine. She got the rise part right, but there was little shine when I looked out the window. Little shine and PLENTY of heavy snow.
I consider myself lucky as I am one person who can work pretty productively from home/hotels/buses. Don't let the couch thing fool you - there's still plenty of work to be done!
Most of that work is centering around the women's basketball team - since that's been my life over the last four months. The team really put itself in a pickle (forgive the reference but I'm fresh off two hours of Food Network in the background) with an overtime loss at Lafayette last night.
Without getting too complicated, Dave Magarity's club is now in a must-win situation on Saturday at Bucknell. The game is at 7 p.m. and you can watch via Patriot League All-Access or pay attention via Gametracker through Bucknell's site. The short story is that an Army loss on Saturday would drop the Black Knights into the eighth seed heading into next weekend's Patriot League Tournament at Holy Cross. If Army is victorious over the Bison, it could finish as high as #4 or as low as #6. Cross your fingers for a win - I certainly am!
Of course all of this will be a moot point if we can't get out of this Winter Wonderland for the game (cross your fingers for that too - I don't ask too much, do I?!)
Before I go, I would like to wish congratulations to junior forward Erin Anthony for becoming the first women's basketball player in Army history to be named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American on Tuesday. Seriously, her GPA is as ridiculously as impressive as her stats. She certainly deserved to be listed amongst the best scholar-athletes in the land, which included UConn's Maya Moore - the reigning NCAA Player of the Year.
Due to the inclement weather, Erin's appointment on tonight's Winter Sports Radio show has been postponed to Monday night instead. You can catch her, coach Magarity, men's basketball coach Zach Spiker and hockey head coach Brian Riley on Monday at 7 p.m. Click here for details.
That's all I've got for today. Back to being productive with game notes, previews and maybe a little Food Network action in the interim!
