Friday, Feb. 12 - Better Late Than Never
February 12, 2010 | General
It's 4:45 p.m. on a Friday. Do you know where the blogger is?
Brian Gunning at the controls today. Sorry for the late entry, but between helping Bob with the baseball guide and trying to get everything ready for the men's basketball game at Lehigh tomorrow night, time got away from me.
Tomorrow's game at Lehigh might be just about the only event that on our schedule that the weather didn't effect. Both the softball and gymanstics events have been wiped out due to travel difficulties caused by this week's storm, and the women's game will be played on Sunday instead of Saturday. Lehigh's women got stuck without officials at Navy on Wednesday night and had to play on Thursday so they requested the delay.
As it does every year, my life pretty much revolves around the hoops schedule. I know where I'm going to be for the next couple of weeks, but forget about trying to predict my schedule in March. After yesterday's Bucknell-American game (Bucknell won on the road), I took a look at the Patriot League standings and just laughed. Army is 3-6 right now tied for seventh place. That's the bad news. The good news is that we are still only three games out of the lead and still have five of the six teams ahead of us left on the schedule. One of those is with Navy at home. In case you missed it, that game is sold out. It should make for a great atmosphere as the Black Knights try to take the annual "Star" game for the first time since 2002.
First things first, though, and that means a trip to Lehigh. This has been a weird series. For the most part, the Mountain Hawks have held the advantage during the regular season, but Army has knocked them out in the Patriot League quarterfinals in each of the past three seasons, including twice in Bethlehem, where Army has not won a regular-season game since 2002. Let's hope this week's trend continues in league play. After having won of the largest home-court advantage records as a league in the country after last weekend's action, all four road teams won their mid-week games.
Saturday's game could have huge implications on where we finish. Not only would it be a much-needed win, but with Lehigh hanging around at the top of the standings, it would be a good win to have in our pocket come tiebreaker time. Don't worry, I won' t confuse everyone (including myself) with tiebreaker scenarios just yet. We still have way too many games to try and figure out that mess.
That's about it for today. The baseball guide is starting at me like it's lonely and wants some attention. For its sake (and mine, right BB?), I better get back at it.
Happy Valentine's Day weekend everybody.
