November 06, 2010 | Wrestling
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Army wrestling team opened its 2010-11 campaign with a 26-6 setback to American at the Pentagon Duals on Saturday. Junior Travis Coffey and sophomore Collin Wittmeyer both recorded wins by decision to lead the Black Knights, but the Eagles took the remaining eight bouts to secure the victory.
Coffee picked up a 3-2 decision in the 125-pound bout to stake Army (0-1) to an early 3-0 lead, but American (1-0) rattled off five straight wins via decision to assume a 15-3.
Wittmeyer then earned a 10-4 decision at 174 pounds to trim American's lead to 15-6, but the Eagles won the final three bouts to account for the final margin.
The match, which was the first wrestling competition ever held inside the Pentagon, was the first for Black Knights head coach Joe Heskett.
Army will close out competition at the Pentagon Duals later today (Nov. 6) when the Black Knights take on Franklin & Marshall.
