Good morning on a pretty drizzly day in the Hudson Valley. Tracy Nelson with you today and I'm happy to report that at least my car is getting a much-needed rinse thanks to all of this rain. I'm hoping it disappears in a hurry, however, as we have quite the busy weekend coming up here at West Point.
Congrats to coach Stef Golan and her women's soccer team on winning the Patriot League regular season crown and right to host this weekend's tournament. The top four teams make it with semifinals taking place tomorrow and the championship game set for Sunday at 1 p.m. Click here for details and links to live stats, webcasts, directions and more. Our very own Mady Salvani will be there covering all of the action. My fingers are crossed that the team does well otherwise Mady will be one very, very disappointed SID.
The football team is also ready to host Air Force in its first test in the race for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy. The Falcons are already in town I've heard and are coming off a string of three disappointing losses. Air Force has played an extremely tough schedule, but Army has been on the upswing as of late and has produced some quality Ws this season as well. Coach Rich Ellerson and his team are just one win away from becoming bowl eligible and it's no secret the pressure is on. You can click here to read all of coach's thoughts from Tuesday's press conference and if you're looking to get psyched for Saturday's game, look no further than captain Steve Anderson. He's been doing a blog for us all season and is a master motivator. He makes me want to get out there and play! (I would never do that to coach E) Click here to read Anderson's latest entry.
Enough kick ball and football, let's talk some Army volleyball. Coach Alma Kovaci and her club have a huge weekend coming up, hosting Navy on Friday night and American on Saturday night. Both matches start at 7 p.m. and will be played at Gillis Field House. Navy is out of the tournament race, but it's an Army-Navy matchup and that's all you need to know. The American match, however, comes with a lot on the line. The Eagles are undefeated (10-0) and atop the PL standings as of now. Army and American are the only two teams to have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament. The top seed hosts, so Saturday's match is a must-win for the Black Knights if they want to hold the tournament at West Point for the second-straight year. On a sidenote, click here to watch an outstanding feature on senior libero Brittany Jensen done by our own Rick Johnston. Brittany (or "Beej" as she is called by the team/coaches) has been the backbone of the Army defense so far this season and is one of three seniors that will celebrate Senior Day prior to the Army-American match on Saturday.
Today's "To Do" list is continuing to grow, so I had better get going. Don't forget to check in with me on Saturday for the Army-Air Force in-game blog. Stop by www.goARMYsports.com and say hello!
GO ARMY! BEAT EVERYONE!
