Black Knight Blog - Friday, Oct. 22
October 22, 2010 | General
Greetings Army fans and welcome to today's Black Knight Blog on a Friday morning. Christian Anderson manning the keyboard today from Nashville, Tenn. No, I'm not here covering an Army team. I simply got an early start to my weekend and flew down to Music City Thursday to spend some time with friends and take advantage of one of those rare weekends when nearly all of the Black Knights' teams are competing away from West Point.
If you are in the area and are looking to root on an Army squad, however, you are in luck as the hockey team hosts Connecticut Saturday night in an Atlantic Hockey Association matchup at 7:05 p.m. at Tate Rink. Read Ryan Yanoshak's game notes by clicking HERE.
By the way, if you've never had the opportunity to visit Nashville, I highly recommend it. Next fall, the Army football teams play at Vanderbilt, so it would be a perfect opportunity to come down and explore the area while also seeing the Black Knights in action. Fort Campbell is a short drive up I-65, giving Army a built-in fan base for next year's clash versus the Commodores (Oct. 22, 2011).
Lately, my days in the office have been consumed with trying to push out the swimming & diving and wrestling media guides. While we don't print these publications anymore, we still publish them on our web site and they require a good deal of time and energy.
I am also trying to get ahead on the lacrosse brochure. The team recently completed its fall ball schedule and went toe-to-toe with perennial national powers Virginia and Georgetown at the Play for Parkinson Lacrosse Series scrimmages in Alexandria, Va. It gave the lacrosse team a chance to test itself against a pair of top-notch opponents, while also supporting a worthy cause. Coach Joe Alberici led the Black Knights to the Patriot League regular season and tournament titles last spring and the team has high hopes for the 2011 campaign.
Plenty of key Patriot League contests in fall sports this weekend with women's soccer travelling to Bucknell on Friday and Colgate on Sunday. Read Mady Salvani's weekend preview by clicking HERE. The men's soccer team will look to notch its first conference victory since the 2008 season finale on Saturday when the Black Knights travel to Lafayette. My game preview can be accessed by clicking HERE. The Army volleyball squad heads to the Lehigh Valley to tangle with Lafayette (Friday) and Lehigh (Saturday). Tracy Nelson's weekend preview is available HERE.
In other action, the Army swimming and diving team travels to Massachusetts on Saturday (preview HERE), while the rifle team competes against Murray State (Saturday) and Kentucky (Sunday). Meanwhile, the women's tennis squad is sending individuals to this weekend's ITA Regionals, which are being hosted by Dartmouth College (preview HERE).
Be sure to check back in to Army's official web site (www.goARMYsports.com) all weekend long to see how the Black Knights fare, and if you're in the area, come out to Tate Rink on Saturday evening and cheer Army to a victory over UConn.
That's it from Nashville.
Until next time, GO ARMY!
