June 19, 2009 | General
ORLANDO, Fla. For the first time, the Army Athletic Association has been honored by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA).
Assistant Athletic Director Rich DeMarco had a busy Friday morning, accepting three awards on behalf of the Army Athletic Association at NACMA’s 18th Annual Convention in Orlando.
Army won two first-place honors and a second-place accolade as NACMA honored outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions for the seventh year.
Awards were presented in 13 categories, with each divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. A total of 700 entries were received for the 2008-09 year, according to NACMA.
Army’s External Operations staff was praised for auctioning football helmets, offering a Bob Knight bobblehead doll and its ticket brochure.
The addition of Army football “ACU” helmets to the Army Athletic Association auction site was the Group II winner in the New-Revenue Generating Idea contest. The Black Knights wore the special designed helmets for the annual Army-Navy game and they were added to the auction site.
Legendary basketball coach Bob Knight was elected into the Army Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and a bobblehead of his likeness was given away during the Black Knights’ January contest against Bucknell to the first 1,000 paid fans. The giveaway earned Army second-place honors in Group II in the Single-Day Attendance Promotion category.
The ticket brochure, designed by Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications’ Brian Gunning, was awarded the top spot in Group II of the Ticket Sales Piece division. The full-color brochure was used primarily for football ticket renewals.
NACMA, the first organization to provide educational and network opportunities, enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators, is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), which is in his 44th year.
