WEST POINT, N.Y. Continuing its effort to keep Army fans up-to-date, the Army Athletic Association has launched a page on Twitter, announced Army Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson.
The page is located at www.twitter.com/ArmyAthletics and members of the Athletic Communications staff will provide “Tweets” about Army athletics, beginning with this weekend’s Patriot League Baseball Tournament. Army is hosting Holy Cross is a best-of-three series at Johnson Stadium beginning with Saturday’s noon doubleheader.
According to the site, Twitter is a service for friends, family, and coworkers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Started as a side project in March of 2006, Twitter has grown into a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices.
In countries all around the world, people follow the sources most relevant to them and access information via Twitter as it happensfrom breaking world news to updates from friends.
Described as a social networking and micro-blogging service, Twitter allows its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them.
According to reports, Twitter has nearly 6 million unique visitors and over 54 million visits per month, ranking behind only Facebook and My Space.
