Corps To East Stands
November 25, 2009 | General
Thank you for your continued support of the Army football team and for being a season-ticket holder and supporter of Army Athletics.
We have established this page to provide assistance for the 2010 football season when the Corps of Cadets moves to the East side of Michie Stadium.
The Corps of Cadets, the best resource of the U.S. Military Academy, will now sit in Sections 25-28 of Michie Stadium. The move was made for several reasons and will continue to build on the West Point brand.
By sitting in the East stands, The Corps will gain television exposure, provide national television audiences with an outstanding backdrop, ensure the section remains full regardless of weather conditions, will be visible for the entire stadium crowd to view and give a competitive advantage to Army.
Displaced season ticket holders will have several choices of new seats, which will be awarded based on priority points.
Included in this page is some information we think you will find helpful. Our Frequently Asked Questions section as well as the video explains some of the reasons behind the move and the graphic of Michie Stadium shows what seating is available.
We are hopeful that this page helps answer some of your questions. If not, please feel free to contact Doug Fillis at 845-446-4029.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Why is the Corps of Cadets being moved to the East Stands?
A: There are several reasons for the move, but the main one has to do with branding for West Point. The Corps of Cadets serves as West Point's finest resource. The Corps of Cadets will now act as the backdrop for all home football games at Michie Stadium. Since all of Army's home games are televised nationally, this will provide a valuable admissions resource for the Academy. The value of this additional exposure for the Corps cannot be overstated. A recent market survey indicated that West Point is not clearly understood by the majority of Americans west of the Mississippi River. This measure will held address that issue.
Additionally, we feel that moving the Corps of Cadets to the East Stands will provide our team with a competitive advantage. In most stadiums around the country, the student section is located behind the visiting team. Our seating chart will now reflect that model. Finally, due to the location presently occupied by the Corps of Cadets, only those fans seated in the East Stands enjoy the antics of the Corps. By moving the Corps to the East Stands, the majority of our fans will be able to observe the full strength of the Corps.
Q: Will the Army Athletic Association experience a financial gain by moving the Corps of Cadets to the East Stands?
A: No, this initiative is not financially driven in any way. This initiative has been discussed for many years. At no time has finances factored into the equation. The Army Athletic Association does not stand to gain financially in this initiative. Once again, the primary reason for the move is to enhance West Point's branding on a national stage.
Q: Where will the Cadets be seated in 2010?
A: The Corps of Cadets will be seated in sections 25, 26, 27 and 28 of Michie Stadium beginning next season.
Q: Where will the parents and guests of cadets be seated in 2010?A: Cadet parents and guests will be seated in section 29 (rows A-J), beginning next season.
Q: What will happen to season ticket holders currently located in section 25, 26, 27, 28 or 29?
A: All fans affected by this move will have the opportunity to select new seat locations following a ranking system that will be based on the Army Athletic Association's Priority Point system.
Q: Will fans that are displaced only have end zone seats from which to select?
A: Absolutely not. There are 1,434 quality seat locations available in sections 10, 11, 12, 13, 29 and 30 (six of Michie Stadium's best seating sections) along with over 4,000 seats vacated by the Corps of Cadets in sections 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19.
Q: Can you explain the re-seating process?
A: The most important step for fans is to renew their season tickets for 2010 by Feb. 1, 2010 (season ticket-holders from 2009 should be receiving their applications shortly). On Feb. 1, the Army Athletic Association will begin the process of calculating Priority Points for all season ticket holders. Once all the numbers are tabulated, we will be able to tell individuals where they stand on the listing. That listing will determine the order in which fans will be chosen to select their new seat locations.
Finally, the Army Athletic Association will hold two events in Michie Stadium for fans to personally select their new seat locations. Individuals who cannot join us on the date specified for their "Select-a-Seat" endeavor will be asked to submit a list of their top three selections. In the absence of a representative from an individual's ticket party, an Army Athletic Association representative will select the best available location based on the priority list submitted. We will conduct the "Select-a-Seat" process for the first half of those affected prior to Army's Black/Gold Game this spring on March 27. The second half of those affected will be invited to participate in the process prior to the Army-Holy Cross lacrosse game at Michie Stadium on April 24.
Q: Who should season ticket holders contact with any questions or concerns regarding this process?
A: Fans should contact Tim Volkmann, "A" Club Director of Annual Giving at 845-446-2322 or by e-mail at timothy.volkmann@usma.edu with any questions, concerns or comments.
