Hall Of Fame Nomination Deadline Approaching
January 15, 2009 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. The Army Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for the Class of 2009 until the Monday, February 1, 2009 deadline.
The Army Sports Hall of Fame, located within the Kenna Hall of Army Sports, honors the athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and others who have brought distinction to Army athletics over its many years of existence.
Those team and individual achievements deemed worthy of admittance, based on the established criteria, will be formally recognized with displays in a designated Hall of Fame area of the Kenna Hall of Army Sports, located within the Kimsey Athletic Center.
Eligible candidates include former athletes, athletic teams, coaches, administrators, support staff or any other individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the long history of athletics at the United States Military Academy. Most importantly, these individuals and teams, in addition to specific criteria, must have been of high moral character and must have upheld the values of "Duty, Honor, Country." Nominees are not eligible for induction until five years after completion of athletic competition or service as an employee (or coach). In order for an athlete to be eligible, he or she must have graduated from the U.S. Military Academy.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Nominations may be offered until February 1, 2009. Nominations should contain only a letter of support on behalf of the candidate. No statistics, letters of recommendation or other additional items are necessary. The athletic department's Office of Athletic Communications will be tasked with developing a detailed biography of the nominee that will be forwarded to a 10-member Selection Committee, which will deliberate the merits of all nominees. The Selection Committee will submit its recommended induction class to the USMA Athletic Committee for approval. Those results will then be passed on to the Academy Superintendent for final approval in late spring or early summer. Nominations may be carried forward for a period of two years if the nominee was not selected in the term in which he/she was nominated.
Nominations may be submitted to:
