NCAA President Visits West Point

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Dr. Myles Brand, President of the NCAA, recently visited West Point and was in attendance for the Army-Navy basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 23.
“I was honored to have had the opportunity to spend time recently at the United States Military Academy at West Point,” Brand said. “I watched two hard fought basketball games, but far more importantly I was able to observe first-hand the extraordinary academic and athletic programs and exceptional cadet-athletes. These young men and women will shortly become military officers and leaders. They are learning and participating in athletic programs that are dedicated to excellence. They are clearly among the pride of our country.”
During his visit, Brand was a guest of Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson and Lt. Gen. F.L. "Buster" Hagenbeck, the West Point Superintendent.
“This was Dr. Brand’s second visit to West Point and the first in many years,” Anderson said. “We’re very pleased that he was able to visit the Academy and witness the responsibilities and challenges our cadet-athletes face every day. We look forward to working with the NCAA on issues in the future and think the perspective gained by Dr. Brand from this trip to West Point will aid in those dealings.”
"It was great to see Dr. Brand take time to visit West Point and really see how special West Point is and the unique challenges of our cadet-athletes,” said Hagenbeck. “Athletics is a critical part in our development of leaders of character, and we agreed that West Point and NCAA would continue to cooperate, to everyone’s benefit."
