Army Boxers To Be Featured On Sports Wire

WEST POINT, N.Y. Army boxers Cory Kastl and J.T. Taylor will appear on Time Warner Cable 6s “Sportswire,” show early this week to discuss the upcoming 52nd annual West Point Brigade Boxing Open.
Kastl and Taylor, who both branched Infantry, will be joined on the show by Director of Boxing Ray Barone. “Sportswire,” with host Lindsay Liquori, will be broadcast Monday, Feb. 18 and Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6 and 7 p.m. and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The segment will also be available on Digital Cable Channel 1111, Hudson Valley on Demand.
Kastl, a senior Management and Systems Engineering major, is the captain of the boxing team and was named the Outstanding Boxer following last year’s Brigade Boxing Open. Earlier this year, Kastl earned the Mike Krzyzewski Teaching Character Through Sports Award.
Taylor, a senior History major, is a two-time BBO champion and is the Brigade Command Sergeant Major.
The 52nd annual West Point Brigade Boxing Open will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6p.m. at the Hayes Gymnasium and for the third straight year, ESPNU will televise the event with Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas calling the action.
Twelve bouts are tentatively scheduled to be contested and college boxing rules will be utilized.
In conjunction with the BBO, West Point will celebrate National Sportsmanship Day. National Sportsmanship Day is utilized to promote students’ appreciation of the critical role of ethics, peaceful conflict resolution and fair play. The Institute for International Sport started NSD in 1991 and will have a representative at the West Point Brigade Boxing Open.
The Brigade Boxing Open is open to all students in the Corps of Cadets. Early round bouts were contested earlier with the finals set for Feb. 26.
