Black Knight Spotlights are intended to give Army fans an inside look into the life of the featured cadet-athlete. These will be updated weekly throughout the 2008-09 season and will include athletes from various sports and backgrounds. Each athlete is posed a handful of questions and the answers are straight from the cadet-athletes themselves. MAY 25 SPOTLIGHT ON ... ARCHIE SMITH (MEN'S TRACK & FIELD) What does it mean to you to be able to compete in track and field at West Point?
Track and field became something I was passionate about coming out of high school. Participating in AAU track and field programs, it seemed as if everyone’s goal was to participate in track and field on the Division I level, so it also became mine. When this opportunity provided itself, I had to take it. Over the years here at the academy, I have worked and worked at track, and it has paid off. Some people consider it a chore or a job, but it has become a part of my life.
