September 27, 2007 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. Knight Vision, the newly expanded multi-media arm of the Army Athletic Association, will broadcast Friday’s Army Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, live from Eisenhower Hall.
Senior Associate Athletic Director Bob Beretta and Director of Broadcasting and Multi-Media Rich DeMarco will serve as hosts as Army honors its induction class.
Video of the event is available at www.goARMYsports.com.
This year marks the fourth class to be enshrined into the Army Sports Hall of Fame and Knight Vision will take viewers inside the event. Seven individuals are being honored this weekend with events that include introduction at the football game Saturday against Temple, an unveiling ceremony Friday and the “black-tie” dinner.
An individual national champion, a three-sport All-American, a former athletic director, a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a record-setting pitcher, two inductees of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame and a tennis and squash standout are a few of the honors of the Class of 2007.
Tom Cafaro (lacrosse), Alma Cobb (track and field and basketball), Barry DeBolt (baseball), Arnold Galiffa (football, baseball and basketball), Charles Oliver (tennis and squash), Carl Ullrich (former athletic director) and “Lighthorse” Harry Wilson (football, lacrosse and basketball) comprise the class.
The honorees, including the first administrator to be elected, cover seven sports and will bring the total number of Hall of Famers to 48.
Clay Matvick, a play-by-play announcer for ESPN, is serving as master of ceremonies. Knight Vision will carry the opening remarks from Superintendent Lt. Gen. Franklin K. Hagenbeck, video highlights, plaque presentations, remarks from Athletic Director Kevin Anderson, the class acceptance speech from Ullrich as well as interviews with the inductees.
The Army Sports Hall of Fame is a subset of the Kenna Hall of Army Sports, a comprehensive museum displaying Army’s rich and proud intercollegiate athletic program. It is located on the third floor of the Kimsey Athletic Center, Army’s massive football training facility that opened four years ago.
