July 06, 2007 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. Four Army media guides received national recognition in contests run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Army lacrosse media guide was judged finest in the nation, the hockey media guide cover was deemed best in the country, the football media guide was the top choice in District 1 and the softball media guide was second in District 1.
The 108-page lacrosse guide, designed by former Athletic Communications Assistant Eric Melanson with editing and writing assistance from Assistant Director for Athletic Communications Ryan Yanoshak, beat out 30 other media guides to take top honors in that sport, ahead of Navy, the University of Massachusetts and Notre Dame.
The hockey media guide cover, featuring senior defenseman Casey Bickley set over an aerial photo of West Point, was voted the best in Division I. Christian Anderson designed the cover with assistance from Marc Tolen of Creative Graphics, Goshen, N.Y. Mike Albright and James Zuhlke also contributed.
The 208-page football media guide, designed and written by Senior Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications Bob Beretta, with assistance from Albright, was the top choice in District 1, beating out the University of Connecticut.
The softball guide was second in District 1 behind the University of Massachusetts. Assistant Director for Athletic Communications Mady Salvani wrote and edited the book that was designed by Danah Allen with assistance from Yanoshak
All Army media guides feature full color front and back covers and provide detailed background on specific sports. Players’ and coaches’ biographies, season outlooks and recaps, comprehensive statistic sections and complete record books are included as well as stadium information, administrator backgrounds, information on West Point and other details to assist the media in its coverage of Army athletics.
CoSIDA was founded in 1957. Previously, sports information directors, as a group, were a part of the American College Public Relations Association but most SIDs at those ACPRA meetings felt that a separate organization was needed. There were 102 members at the original meetings; since that time, CoSIDA has grown to over 1,800 members in the United States and Canada.
