May 30, 2007 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Army Athletic Association turned to a familiar face to help fill a void on its athletic communications staff on Wednesday as Director of Athletics Kevin Anderson announced the hiring of Tracy Nelson as assistant director of athletic communications.
Nelson comes to Army from fellow Patriot League institution Lafayette, where she spent the last two years working for the Leopards. During that time, she served as the primary contact for 14 of Lafayette’s 23 varsity sports, including women’s basketball, volleyball, field hockey, softball and men’s and women’s lacrosse. Nelson also spent significant time working with men’s basketball and football, a program brought home Patriot League Championship hardware in each of the two seasons that she was there.
She will handle promotional responsibilities for Army's women’s basketball, volleyball and women’s tennis programs during the 2007-08 academic year in her new role at the Military Academy.
A native of Salamanca, N.Y., Nelson graduated magna cum laude from the Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure University in 2005. It was at St. Bonaventure that Nelson was introduced to the sports information world, interning as a student in both her junior and senior years. She served as the primary contact for men’s soccer and was co-Media Relations Director for the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., for two years. She also worked extensively with men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.
While at St. Bonaventure, Nelson was the sports editor for the campus newspaper, The BonaVenture, as a sophomore after contributing as a staff writer in her freshman year.
Nelson, 24, holds professional credentials from CoSIDA, ECAC-SIDA and USBWA. She resides at West Point, N.Y.
