Army Headlines ESPNU Memorial Day Stunt Lineup
May 25, 2007 | General
WEST POINT, N.Y. ESPNU will air four Army athletic events from 2006-07 academic year as a part of its Memorial Day Stunt on Monday, May 28, keeping with the day’s intentions of honoring the United States Armed Forces. Programming begins at 2:30 p.m. and concludes with the Army-Navy wrestling match at 8 p.m.
Two rivalries and three Army athletic teams will be featured, as the rebroadcast will begin on Monday afternoon with the Air Force-Army football game at 2:30 p.m. followed by matchups against Navy in men’s basketball (5 p.m.), women’s basketball (6:30 p.m.) and wrestling (8 p.m.).
The 41st gridiron meeting between Army and Air Force this year, the Black Knights’ home finale from Michie Stadium on Nov. 3 kicks off the programming block and can be seen at 2:30 p.m. Once again this year, all of Army’s home football games are slated to be televised by the ESPN family of networks this fall, as a part of the Army Athletic Association’s exclusive, multi-media agreement with ESPN.
The Black Knights’ thrilling 53-50 men’s basketball win over Navy on Jan. 21 from Christl Arena can be relived at 5 p.m. In the 105th meeting between the two programs, the Army gutted out its third Patriot League win of the season in what was a low-scoring, defensive battle. It marked the Black Knights’ 13th win of the year, as Jim Crews’ club went on to put together the programs’ winningest campaign since 1984-85, finishing 15-16.
The Memorial Day lineup continues with the Navy women’s basketball team visiting West Point that same day (Jan. 21). Unfortunately, the outcome was not the same, as the Mids walked away with a 49-42 triumph before the men’s teams took the floor. The loss snapped a 12-game Army winning streak and marked the final contest of a nine-game home stint for the Black Knights. The Black Knights were victorious in the second meeting of the season, owning a 58-43 decision on Feb. 18 in Annapolis, Md.
The holiday tribute concludes with the Black Knights’ Feb. 28 meeting with Navy’s grapplers, who entered the contest ranked 17th in the country. The Mids won eight of 10 bouts en route to a 29-6 win at Christl Arena.
