Athletic Communications Assistant
Eric Melanson is in his second year as a member of Army’s Office of Athletic Communications staff. He serves as the primary contact for the Army ice hockey program as well as the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, and both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. Melanson will also assist with game day operations and statistics for lacrosse this spring.
The Bloomfield, Conn., native graduated from Neumann College in Aston, Pa., in May 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. He developed his passion for sports information during the fall of 2003, when he served as an intern in Neumann’s Sports Information Office under Assistant Athletic Director/SID Leigh Matejkovic. In addition to assisting in the day-to-day responsibilities of the office, Melanson served as the public address announcer for home field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s ice hockey games, as well as singing the National Anthem when called upon.
While at Neumann, Melanson played four years of varsity baseball and served as team captain during his junior and senior seasons, in addition to being a member of the music ministry program. The New Englander also volunteered his services at a variety of international and national field hockey events, including the 2002 and 2003 National Hockey Festival in Palm Springs, Calif., and the 2003 International Field Hockey Championships in Virginia Beach.
Melanson, 24, currently resides at West Point, N.Y.
