USMA / NCAA Compliance Issues NCAA Announces Athletics Certification Decisions
After reviewing the United States Military Academy athletics self-study document and the evaluation report by the NCAA Peer Review Team that visited during April 19-22, the NCAA Division 1 Committee on Athletics Certification, during its January 16-17, 2000 meeting, announced the United States Military Academy fully certified. This classification means the USMA is considered to be operating its athletics program in substantial conformity with the operating principles of the NCAA and any problems identified were not considered serious enough to affect the certification status. Although an interim report is required in 2003-04, the next self-study process is scheduled to begin in 2007-08 with the Peer Review evaluation visit planned for 2008-09. ODIA Mission & Goals
Take a look at the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics mission and goals. Patriot League Code of Conduct
In accordance with the traditions of its member institutions, League members are expected to represent the Patriot League in an honorable manner at all times. Standards of ethical conduct are established by the Council of Presidents and enforced by the League's Executive Director. Patriot League Statement on Gender Equity and Diversity
The Patriot League Council of Presidents adopted these two detailed statements in December 2002. Initial Academic Eligibility for Athletes
Each year a great number of Plebes tryout for one of the many intercollegiate teams at West Point. Several of these walk-on athletes significantly contribute to the success of the athletic program. If you are even considering participation in intercollegiate athletics at USMA, you should know that you must be certified as academically eligible by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. NCAA Rules for Alumni and USMA Staff/Faculty
At West Point, we have a Cadet Honor code and a long tradition of integrity. We want to see the cadets win, but at West Point, it is most important to WIN the RIGHT WAY. NCAA Position on Gambling
The NCAA opposes all forms of legal and illegal sports wagering. Sports wagering has the potential to undermine the integrity of sports contests and jeopardizes the welfare of student-athletes and the intercollegiate athletics community. Sports wagering demeans the competition and competitors alike by a message that is contrary to the purposes and meaning of "sport." Sports competition should be appreciated for the inherent benefits related to participation of student-athletes, coaches and institutions in fair contests, not the amount of money wagered on the outcome of the competition. NCAA Banned Drug Classes
The NCAA list of banned drug classes is subject to change by the NCAA Executive Committee. The most current listing can be found on www.ncaa.org under NCAA Sports Sciences. In accordance with Bylaw 31.2.3.1, the following link is a list of banned drug classes.
