About Us
When Gen. Douglas MacArthur first spoke the famous phrase at left, he created a legacy for intercollegiate athletics at the United States Military Academy which thousands of cadet-athletes have followed throughout history and continue to follow today. His profound statement is repeated often throughout the hallowed halls of the Academy, and is the lifeblood of one of America's most historic and respected intercollegiate athletic programs.
"Upon the fields of friendly strife, Are sown the seeds That, upon other fields, on other days, Will bear the fruits of victory." Gen. Douglas MacArthur |
Just as the landscape has changed on the courts and playing fields, so have the financial necessities for remaining nationally competitive. At the United States Military Academy, the intercollegiate athletic program is defined as a "mission essential" element, one which is vital to the fulfillment of the Academy's primary taskbuilding leaders of character. Generous contributions by "A" Club members and graduates of West Point have been integral to extensive modernizing and refurbishing of the department's playing and practice facilities currently under way. These enhancements are vital to both recruiting national caliber student-athletes, and to providing the best possible environment for both training and competition.
At Army, we are challenged to continually improve our athletic facilities and annual funding so that our teams may compete at the highest level. Many of our fans are surprised to learn that just 35% of our annual budget for athletics comes from government funds. The balance is generated through a wide variety of external sources, including annual contributions to the Army "A" Club. By contributing to the "A" Club, you truly can make a tangible difference in our quest for excellence on the "fields of friendly strife."
A wide variety of benefits are extended to eligible "A" Club donors, including game program recognition, discounts on all Army Gift Shop purchases, tailgate invitations, access to halftime hospitality in the new Kimsey Athletic Center, priority parking (for season ticket holders) and the option to purchase tickets to the Army- Navy game. Please contact the Army "A" Club for more information regarding donation levels and benefits of the "A" Club.
