Hello, everybody out there in internet land.
Well, here we are again for what I am sorry to say will be my last diary input of my short, but conspicuous, diarist career. Thank you for putting up with my poor attempt at comical writing, while still attempting to maintain a sense of purpose - i.e. talking about the greatest sport (lacrosse), and the greatest team (Army).
The past few weeks have not been our most glorious - to say the least. Last week, we went up to Colgate to play in the Patriot League Tournament. We were all looking forward to this trip very much. We had a great week of practice just as we have been doing all year. The coaching staff has really put a huge emphasis on that this year, and I think it really paid off because we pushed ourselves all year long. I truly believe that we continued to get better everyday we were out there under their tutelage. We had a great bus ride up to Hamilton, N.Y., and as I have said before, bus rides are great. This one was no exception and was very long, which made it that much better. Not too mention that we got out of school on Thursday, which is always a bonus, uh...can I say that???
Anyway, our first game was on Friday against Colgate. We had beaten Colgate earlier in the year and were ready to play them again. We knew they were going to be a tough team to beat, especially on their home field, which definitely set the tone to be a good game - and it did not disappoint. We battled the whole game down to the fourth quarter where Colgate had the advantage with eight minutes left and led, 8-5.
Things were not looking good for us, but we never had any thought in our collective minds other than victory, and we would not let each other down. We went on a 5-0 scoring run to win the game, 10-8. It was a great game, well, if you're an Army fan that is. With that victory, we assured ourselves another game to play for the Patriot League Championship, and not one, but TWO more nights in the hotel, which by the way was a great hotel.
The hotel that we stayed in, The #@(&%))#& (names have been changed to protect the innocent), was great. The food was amazing, the pool was very nice and the hot tub ... well it was hot. But, I think the best part of this hotel were the beds. The beds were sleep-number, so you could fill up or let out air to make it softer or firmer. Well, it was a bad idea to put those in our rooms. I know that everybody on the team, including myself, played with those beds for the better part of an hour when we first got into our rooms. That is the great thing about West Point, it's amazing what we will find and how easily we can amuse ourselves. Guess you had to be there.
Our next game was on Sunday when we played Navy for the second year in a row for the Patriot League title. Well, I won't go into much detail about the game because it's a bit of a sore subject. But, I will say that as always we played hard, and that is why I love being a part of this team and wouldn't trade it for anything.
With our unfortunate loss to Ohio State this past Saturday, I am afraid that for my fellow seniors, and I, our last season is over. I cannot explain in words what an experience being on this team has done for, and meant to, me. The friends that I have made over these four years on the team, in my class and the others, are the best. They truly aren't even friends anymore. They are my brothers, and I love every one of them. I hope that everyone can experience something like playing lacrosse for Army because it is truly amazing, and a lot of that is due to you ... the fans. You give us undying support and loyalty, and it wouldn't be the same without you. So, thank you again and keep supporting the team because it means the world to us.
It's been a very long, and somehow simultaneously, a very short four years here. I am looking forward to graduating and joining the ranks of men and women defending our country. It is, however, a little bittersweet on many levels - if only for the reason that I won't be able to converse with you and reach out with my weekly diaries -inspiring and motivating with my personal philosophies and wisdom. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I now say to you for the last time...for now, Nathan Foust...so long...and of course...You STAY CLASSY Army Lax fans!
