December 18, 2023 | Football
DANBURY, CT - Army West Point football running back Kanye Udoh was named ECAC Divison I FBS Rookie of the Year, announced today by the conference.Â
Senior DB Quindrelin Hammonds was selected to the All-ECAC Defense team.Â
Udoh came on strong across his plebe campaign for the Black Knights, eventually leading the backfield with 524 rushing yards this season, trailing only QB Bryson Daily for the team lead. His 524 yards on the ground ranked 10th among all FBS freshman in the country this season.
Udoh made his collegiate debut at home against Delaware State, running five times for 32 yards while scoring his first collegiate touchdown.Â
The Mays Landing, N.J. native saw carries across Army's next three games, before breaking out against Troy with an 18-carry, 124-yard effort at home against the Trojans. He is just the fifth Army freshman since at least 2000 to eclipse 100 yards on the ground in a game.
Udoh went on to make his first career start at LSU the following week, amassing 108 yards on 21 carries at Tiger Stadium. With the rushing total, he became the first Army freshman since at least 2000 to log back-to-back 100-yard efforts on the ground
Continuing to draw starts in the backfield, Udoh rushed for 148 yards over Army's next three contests, before the freshman led Army with 88 yards on the ground on just 13 carries (6.8 YPC)Â in the victory over Navy in Foxborough, the most rushing yards by an Army freshman vs. Navy since 2016.Â
Army senior DB Quindrelin Hammonds also received recognition, being named to the All-ECAC Defense team after posting 64 tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery to help lead the Army secondary.
