Michie Stadium Preservation Project Support Spotlight: Robert Healy
WEST POINT, N.Y. - A consistent supporter of West Point and a member of the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) Douglas MacArthur Lifetime Giving Society, Robert Healy was among the first to make a significant commitment to the Michie Stadium Preservation Project.
Giving back to West Point, he said, “means a great deal to me personally as I feel a sense of obligation to help the Academy as much as possible as West Point helped me in so many ways in life. So, to be able to help build upon the tremendous sports tradition at West Point really gives me a great deal of joy.”
Built in 1924, Michie Stadium has become a West Point icon and serves as the gateway to the Academy for many Americans. The transformational Michie Stadium Preservation Project will help to preserve and protect Michie Stadium’s history, tradition, and “once-in-a-lifetime experience” for generations to come. The project will support reconstruction of the East Stands and introduce all-new premium suite, loge, ledge, and club-level seating areas. Army West Point Football already provides an unparalleled experience, and the proposed upgrades will further enhance the uniqueness of experiencing a game at Michie Stadium.
Healy’s strong personal connection to Army Football inspired him to support this project. He was a quarterback for the team as a cadet and was the MVP of the 1985 Peach Bowl, leading the team to their second Bowl victory in history.
“I think playing Army Football in Michie Stadium played a key role in my desire to be a part of this,” Healy said. “My family and I feel connected to the stadium and we really wanted to help Michie fully realize its potential. The plan for the project will create a world-class stadium for USMA for decades to come.”
Rob and his entire family have meant so much to this athletic department over the years, and we could not be more thankful for their tremendous generosity. The investment and support from Rob and his family will turn this project into a reality and continue to transform our department.Mike Buddie, Director of Athletics
Healy continued, “I support Army West Point Athletics because of the life lessons I learned playing on the ‘fields of friendly strife.’ The intense challenges that cadets experience while competing at a very high level can mirror battlefield experiences, thus preparing them to be leaders in combat. By supporting Army Athletics, in a way we are helping to prepare these men and women for challenges on the battlefield. This is particularly satisfying to us and we felt compelled to be a part of such an impactful project.”
“It takes a tremendous team effort to achieve a project of this magnitude. I would encourage all graduates and anyone who has an affinity for West Point to consider becoming a part of this endeavor. When completed, I think we will all be very proud to have this amazing facility as part of our Rockbound Highland Home. Go Army.”
Healy is an investment professional and a Founder and Managing Partner of L Squared Capital Partners and he holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Healy served for nine years as an officer in the United States Army and was decorated for his combat leadership, commanding a Black Hawk Squadron in Operation Just Cause.
