Q&A with Nolan Cockrill
Q: Why did you decide to attend West Point?
NC: I decided to attend West Point for the opportunity to get a first-class education and to be able to play football at a high level. On top of that, the chance to serve my country after graduation is something that I was really drawn to.
Q: Aside from football, what’s been your favorite part of West Point?
NC: My favorite part is definitely the people. My teammates and my friends in the Corps have gotten me through some hard times. The instructors and the TAC Officers truly care about you as people and having them to lean on has helped me a lot.
Q: What does it mean to you to be named captain of this team?
NC: It’s a great honor to be selected as a captain by my teammates. It’s something that I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. I hope to give this team everything that I can.
Q: What was it like to be a part of the team that beat both Navy and Air Force at Michie Stadium?
NC: It was amazing. The opportunity and the ability to bring the CIC Trophy back where it belongs was a defining moment in my career here at the Academy. On top of that, to be able to do it at home is something that I will always remember because not many other classes have had that chance.

Q: What’s been your favorite non-football memory at the Academy?
NC: It’s hard to pick just one, but I would say any time I get to go on trips with my teammates and my friends. Also, I would say summer training. It’s really fun to look back on it because you really bond with other members of the Corps and it makes you really close with other people.
Q: What are you hoping to branch?
NC: Infantry.
Q: When you get free time, what are your favorite things to do?
NC: I like to spend time with my family, friends, teammates and my girlfriend. I enjoy doing things outdoors like fishing, but I also like watching Netflix. I’m currently watching Game of Thrones.
