CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Rookie Ana Joyner, junior Melanie Allen and head coach Paul Peck of the 2018 Patriot League champion Army West Point women's tennis team swept the major postseason awards that were released by the league Wednesday afternoon.
Joyner was named the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year, while she paired up with Allen as the doubles team of the year. Joyner also earned the John "Pat" Rooney Award as the Patriot League Tournament's Most Valuable Player following her match-clinching victory over Navy in the championship on April 22. Additionally, Peck was named the coach of the year for the 15th time and first since 2013.
Allen and Joyner were both named to the All-Patriot League First Team squad, while junior Kirby Einck collected second team honors. Allen earned first team accolades for the second year in a row, while this is Joyner's first career all-league selection. Einck notched her second all-league recognition after being named to the first team in 2017.
Joyner excelled at the top of Army's lineup in her first collegiate season, playing at the No. 1 position for both singles and doubles. The Las Cruces, N.M., native is the only Cadet to record at least 20 wins in both facets this season, going 23-13 (11-8 duals) in singles action and 22-14 (15-8 duals) in doubles play.
Allen continued to build on her strong sophomore campaign by setting personal bests in singles wins (19), Patriot League singles wins (four), doubles wins (21) and No. 1 doubles wins (13). The Cape Coral, Fla., native owns a 19-9 (9-3) singles record while also sporting a 21-13 (13-7 duals) mark in doubles. She is 4-0-2 in her last six singles matches, including her 40th career victory which came against Remi Ramos of Boston University in the Patriot League Semifinals.
Einck was an impressive 18-4 in singles, including a team-best 13-2 mark in duals. The Geneva, Ill., native added a 17-9 record in doubles action, while going 14-5 in duals. She teamed up with sophomore Gloria Son to boast a perfect 6-0 mark against league opponents in doubles. Einck is currently riding a four-match winning streak in singles play and is 12-1-1 in her last 14 contests. She is also 10-1-2 in her last 13 doubles matches and saw her 10-match doubles winning streak snapped last time out.
