TAMPA, Fla. – Three Black Knights were in action for the Army West Point men's track and field team on the second day of competition at the NCAA East Regional preliminary round at the USF Track and Field Stadium on Friday.
COACH'S QUOTES
"We had a young group competing out there today. Geoff and Mike were both pretty good. They threw very close to the marks that got them into this meet and that is the key to being successful st this level. Geoff is a plebe so it was particularly encouraging to see him compete the way he did. His series was probably the best series of his career. That is what you hope for at a championship meet but is unusual for a plebe.
"Mike had a nice opener but couldn't quite hit it right after that. Considering the field of competitors and where they finished in the overall standings. It was a nice effort out there today by those two guys.
"Our other competitor today was Kedrin Jefferson in the 200. Kedrin was one of the last athletes to get into the meet so we had realistic expectations for him today. He did a nice job in likely the most competitive meet of his life. His time was the second best of his life and he hung in there all the way to the line. I am sure it was an eye opener for him but knowing him he will take that as motivation moving forward. He wants to be good and he knows he can be good so he will be back here next year and the outcome will be different. He had a great season for us and was outstanding at the meets that mattered most.
"The success that those three guys had this year and the way they competed today is testament to their hard work and the steady guidance they have received from coach Posillico (throws) and coach Reed (sprints/hurdles). While their season ends today, they all have a bright future."
