May 01, 2018 | Football
WASHINGTON - The Army West Point football team celebrated its Commander in Chief's Trophy title by visiting President Trump at The White House followed by a trip to the Pentagon.Â
The Black Knights were guests of the President in the Rose Garden at The White House for a short ceremony that congratulated Army on a great season.Â
Â
The President talked about the teams' will to win and how they were an inspiration during their run to the CIC Trophy. He talked about individuals like team captains John Voit and Ahmad Bradshaw and their performances on the field during the 2017 season.Â
Â
Head coach Jeff Monken spoke after President Trump and thanked him and The White House for allowing us to visit. He also talked about his team and mentioned that what they accomplished this season was something great. The Black Knights achieved one of their biggest goals this year -- being in the Rose Garden with the CIC Trophy.
Â
Army then went on a tour of The White House and also got to go into the Oval Office to get its photo taken with the President. Following the visit to The White House, the Black Knights headed to the Pentagon for a ceremony held by the Secretary of the Army, Mark Esper, as well as the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, Gen. Mark Milley.
Â
Milley and Esper gave remarks during the ceremony as did the USMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen and Monken.
Â
Army finished the day with a quick tour of Milley's offices and the 9/11 Memorial on the grounds of the Pentagon.
