Black Knights Welcome Iona for Midweek Contest

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team will host Iona this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for a single game at the Army West Point Softball Complex.
Wednesday's meeting marks the 32nd between the Black Knights and Gaels since 1980. Army currently holds the slight series edge over Iona, 17-14. The Cadets have claimed each of the four previous contests, including the last three home games, outscoring the Gaels, 18-8.

- Freshman pitcher Courtney Springman collected her second Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after posting a 0.36 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work.
- Army showcased some power hitting in the series with the Raiders, totaling seven extra-base hits, including a pair of homers and doubles in the series finale.
- Carrie Reilly is on a six-game hitting streak, batting over .500 at the plate during that stretch.
- Emily Ballesteros has compiled nine hits in her last 17 at-bats for a .529 average, .600 on-base and .706 slugging percentage.
IONA (13-15, 5-1 MAAC)
- The defending MAAC regular season champions have captured wins in five of their last seven outings and outscored the opposition 22-11 during that stretch.
- Iona's offense has struggled to this point, posting a .218 batting average.
- Jasmine Temple and Marisa Gergel have found the most success at the plate, putting up 22 hits apiece and combining for 17 runs scored, 24 RBIs and eight doubles.
- Pitching has been a strong point for the Gaels as two starters carry an ERA under 3.00.
- Alana Evans has compiled a team-best 80 strikeouts and leads the group with a league-best 1.65 ERA in 59.1 innings pitched. Â
