Army to Meet American in PL Tournament Semifinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team will play in the Patriot League Tournament Semifinal round for the fifth consecutive season when the Black Knights take on top-seeded American at 7 p.m. on Thursday night at Bender Arena.

GAMEDAY STORYLINES
• Army and American face off in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament for the third time in program history. The Black Knights currently hold a 2-0 advantage over the Eagles.
• This is the first time that Army is playing a postseason game at Bender Arena.
• The Cadets have yet to win a semifinal game while representing the fifth seed in the tournament.
• Junior Madison Hovren is 14 rebounds shy of becoming just the seventh Cadet in program history to reach 1,000 points and 700 rebounds for her career.

• Janae McNeal is appearing in her 10th Patriot League Tournament game and has averaged 7.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game with four double-digit scoring performances in those outings.
• Army's 62-60 Patriot League Tournament overtime victory against Lehigh on Monday was just the second tournament road win in program history for the Black Knights.
• Army is 5-8 in the semifinal round. The last semifinal round win came during the 2015-16 season when the Cadets took down Lehigh 76-46 in West Point, N.Y., on March 11.
• Dating back to the 2002-03 campaign, Army has gone on to four championship games in seven chances. One of those wins came against American on March 10, 2014, when Army bested the Eagles 68-60 at Christl Arena.

• From Dec. 20 through Feb. 21, the Eagles were the hottest team in the league, capturing a program-best 17 consecutive wins. However, in the final two regular season games, American fell to Bucknell and Navy on the road. The Eagles have been held to 55 points or fewer in their last three games.
• As the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament, the Eagles cruised to a 55-35 victory over Lafayette at Bender Arena on Monday night. American jumped out to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Leopards were held without a made shot in the frame, scoring all three of their points from the foul line.
• Senior Emily Kinneston, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Year late last week, poured in a game-high 20 points, while dishing out seven assists. Junior Cecily Carl added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win against the Leopards.
• American finished the game by only shooting 32 percent from the field and 22 percent from long range, but the defense locked down the Maroon and White enough to trump any chance of a comeback attempt. The Eagles forced 20 turnovers in the game, while only committing nine of their own.
