WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men's lacrosse duo Johnny Surdick and AJ Barretto were named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason Media All-America list, announced Thursday.
Surdick, a 2017 All-America Honorable Mention pick, was voted to the first team for the midseason list. He leads the Black Knights with 14 caused turnovers this year and sits tied for 12th nationally with 2.0 caused turnovers per game.
The junior from Odenton, Md., has assisted on a goal in four of the last five games for Army. He totals 97 career groundballs and 58 caused turnovers.
The Black Knights' goalie, Barretto, landed on honorable mention. The junior's 6.61 goals against average is good for second in college lacrosse. He has allowed seven or less goals in all of his wins this season.
Barretto, who hails from Darlington, Md., posted a career-high 14 saves earlier this month in the team's win over Holy Cross. He added three groundballs, two caused turnovers and an assist in the effort. He is one groundball shy of the 100 mark in his career.
The Black Knights lead the country in scoring defense with just 6.63 goals allowed per game. This has allowed Army to rank eighth nationally in scoring margin at 3.63. The Cadets' defensive core is responsible for 9.44 caused turnovers per game, which is good for sixth in college lacrosse.
No. 15/20 Army hosts No. 18 Bucknell this Saturday at Michie Stadium. The game will begin at 12 p.m.
