Springman and Snelling Collect Weekly Honors
March 12, 2018 | Softball
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Rookies Courtney Springman and Ally Snelling of the Army West Point softball team received Patriot League weekly honors on Monday morning.
This marks the first weekly award for both cadet-athletes. Springman was tabbed the league's pitcher of the week, while Snelling picked up rookie of the week recognition.
"We have a very young team on the field right now and both Courtney and Ally have been put into big roles as plebes," head coach Michelle DePolo said. "It's great to see all their hard work pay off for the team as we continue to work through the early parts of the season en route to getting into peak form."
Springman turned in four solid starts inside the circle for the Black Knights during the first weekend of the USF Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. In 25 innings of work, she posted a 1.80 earned run average and struck out 20 batters, while allowing two or fewer runs in each outing.
Against Villanova on March 9, she posted a career-best seven strikeouts with no walks and allowed only one earned run over a six-inning start. She later tied her career-high in strikeouts the following day, when she picked up her first collegiate win after going the distance against Saint Joseph's.
At the plate, Snelling compiled a .467 average, .533 slugging and .467 on-base percentage over the weekend. She tallied seven hits in 15 at-bats with two runs scored and an extra-base hit. The Las Vegas, Nev., native had a pair of multi-hit games against Loyola Chicago and Bethune-Cookman. Her double against the Wildcats was the first of her collegiate career and she is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, the longest by any Cadet this season.
The Black Knights will return to action on Wednesday when they face off against Manhattan in a doubleheader slated to begin at 11 a.m. in Clearwater, Fla.
