HOW IT HAPPENED
- Army had a dismal start to the game, scoring just six points in the opening frame after connecting on just two of its 16 attempts from the field. Hovren was responsible for all six of the team's points. The Black Knights had several second-chance opportunities, reeling in nine offensive boards, but were unable to capitalize and trailed 10-6 heading into the second.
- Lafayette maintained its slim lead behind Sammy Stipa's hot shooting. She went 3-for-3 from the field, including a three-point make, to account for eight of her team's 12 points. On the other end, the Black Knights continued to turn to Hovren and she put forth another six-point and six-rebound quarter. She recorded her double-double with 7:22 still left to play in the half.
- Entering the new half, Lafayette led 22-20, but Army had its best quarter of the night. Five different Cadets contributed offensively and went 6-for-13 (46%).
- The quarter started with a 10-2 Black Knight run that gave Army an eight-point advantage, 32-24. The Leopards outscored Army 6-3 over the final 2:27 of the third and it was a five-point game entering the final frame.
- The Black Knights had another poor shooting quarter, but made up for it by going 9-for-12 from the charity stripe in the fourth.
- An 8-2 Leopard run trimmed the deficit to one, 39-38, with 3:20 remaining. Lafayette had issues getting good looks late and committed several fouls that allowed Army to ice the game, going 5-for-8 from the line en route to the win.
