Spencer Named to Preseason All-Patriot League Team

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior co-captain Kiersten Spencer of the Army West Point women's lacrosse team was selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League team for the 2018 season the league announced on Tuesday.
Spencer became the first preseason all-league selection in program history after a solid junior campaign. The Mahwah, N.J., native started in 14 of the Black Knights' 17 games and was primarily active on the defensive end of the ball. She was second on the team in ground balls with 33 and second in caused turnovers with 19. Spencer picked up 14 draw controls and ended the season on a three-game scoring streak that was capped by a two-goal performance at Loyola.
Army was selected to finish eighth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll with 60 points, its highest projection to date.
Navy was voted the preseason favorites with 162 points and 18 first-place votes, with Loyola (146 points, 2 first-place votes) and Lehigh (124 points) rounding out the top three. Boston U. followed closely behind with 120 points in fourth, while Lafayette's 86 points was the fifth-highest total.
Bucknell and Colgate preceded the Black Knights with 78 and 64 points, respectively. Holy Cross (38 points) and American (17 points) capped the poll in the No. 9 and 10 slots.
The Black Knights begin their 2018 season on Saturday when the team travels to Monmouth for a noon matchup.
