Cadets Edge Terriers in Boston, 48-47

BOSTON – The Army West Point women's basketball team grabbed a one-point lead in the final seconds of the game and held on to secure a 48-47 Patriot League victory over Boston U. on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
Army (16-12, 9-8 Patriot League) was led offensively by Janae McNeal's 18-point effort. She also added a team-best eight rebounds in the win over the Terriers (10-17, 5-12 Patriot League). Madison Hovren also reached double-figure scoring in the game, pouring in 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting with six boards.
Jess Lewis, Daizjah Morris and Lena' Hicks chipped in with six points apiece.

- Army continued its winning ways in Boston, claiming its fifth consecutive victory in Beantown.
- The Cadets claimed their fourth-straight win this season, marking their second-longest winning streak of the year
- The Black Knights moved over .500 in Patriot League play for the first time this season.
- McNeal and Hovren both recorded double-digit points for the ninth-straight game.
- With her three assists, McNeal now ranks 10th all-time in program history with 281 for her career.
- Army outrebounded the Terriers, 32-27, including a 15-6 disparity on the offensive glass.
- It was the eighth-straight game that the Cadets won the rebounding margin.
- The Black Knights reeled in double-digit offensive rebounds for the 27th time this season.
- After Boston U. put in the first basket of the game, Army went on a 9-2 run with Morris and Hovren accounting for nine points. Through the opening 5:14, the Black Knights connected on 57 percent of its shots. The Terriers outscored the Cadets 9-5 for the final five minutes of action and Army's lead was down to three, 14-11. Ten of the 11 Boston U. points came from inside the paint.
- The Cadets opened the second with back-to-back McNeal scores, but the Terriers answered with an 8-2 run to trim the deficit to two, 21-19 with 4:49 left in the quarter. Neither team could find the bottom of the basket for over a three-minute stretch, but Boston U. brought the game within a point with a Nia Irving foul shot.
- Following a score from both sides in the final 52 seconds, McNeal found Hicks underneath the basket with just a few ticks left on the clock. Hicks beat the buzzer and her score put Army on top 25-22 heading into the break.
- The Terriers took their first lead since the first basket of the afternoon once Corrine Williams knocked down a 3-point shot in the opening minutes of the new half. That make was during the early stages of an 11-1 Terrier run that put Boston U. ahead 33-26. During that run, Boston U. knocked down three of its first four shots.
- Army was held to only one made shot in the entire third quarter. It came on an and-one by Hovren to bring the deficit within four, 33-29, with 4:55 on the clock. The Cadets were limited to three points for the rest of the frame, with all three coming from the foul line.
- Boston U. carried a 38-32 advantage into the fourth and scored the first basket, but the Cadets immediately countered with a 9-2 run. After four straight unanswered points by the Terriers, Lewis knocked down a deep three to trim the deficit to one, 45-44. Army then retook the lead following a Hovren score from inside and a McNeal foul shot made it a two-point game.
- Boston U. called timeout and out of the break, found Sophie Beaudry open underneath the basket and she scored to tie the game at 47-47. On the ensuing Army possession, McNeal drove to the basket and was fouled while putting up a shot. She made one-of-two at the line and the lead was at one in favor of the Black Knights.
- The Terriers got one final look at the basket in the closing seconds, but the buzzer-beater attempt hit back iron and Army secured the 48-47 victory.

- The Black Knights will return to West Point to close out the regular season at Christl Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Bucknell on senior day.
