Black Knights Win Big on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point gymnastics team won big on senior day Saturday with a team score of 385.000. Nathan Goff championed the parallel bars and Cole Casanova won the floor exercise to help the Black Knights top Springfield and William & Mary in the final home event of the season.

- The Black Knights will honor its five seniors prior to the meet.
- Cole Casanova opened the competition with a career-high 13.750 on floor exercise to champion the event.
- He followed that up with a career-best 13.200 on still rings and another on parallel bars at 13.500.
- On the rings, Taka Giese turned out a career-high 13.600.
- Seth Cannon and Alejandro Tombrink both recorded 14.050 on vault for season-highs.
- Erik Del Cid also posted his best score of the year on vault with a 13.750.
- Nathan Goff set a new season standard on parallel bars with a 14.050 for a first-place finish.
- He stuck his landed and completed the routine with a swan dive into the team huddle.
- In team scores, Army won on floor exercise, pommel horse and vault.
COMPETITION
- The Black Knights took a lead after the first three events.
- Army (192.90) led William & Mary by 1.55 at the break. The Tribe (191.35) and Springfield (183.65) were close behind though.
- The Cadets recorded a 66.500 on floor exercise with Casanova (13.750) and Elliott Herman (13.450).
- Army earned marks of 59.950 on pommel horse and 66.450 on still rings.
- Brandon Shively and Matthew Martin led the Black Knights on pommel with 12.800 scores.
- On rings it was Giese with the 13.600 and Herman (13.550) setting the pace.
- Cannon and Tombrink had the top marks on vault for Army each with 14.050.
- Ryan Wilson was close to the 14 mark with a 13.950.
- It was Army with the top two scores on parallel bars.
- Senior captains Goff and Nick McAfee went one-two on the event with marks of 14.050 and 13.700.
- The Black Knights were led by Goff (11.800) and Casanova (11.400) in the final event. The judges were tough as the highest score was only a 12.100.
