Black Knights Split Weekend Series with Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey team split its weekend series with Bentley with a 4-2 deficit on Saturday night. The Falcons scored the go-ahead goal five minutes into the final frame and added an insurance goal with nine seconds remaining.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Conor Andrle scored for the second night in a row for Army.
- The senior nears the 100 point mark with 95 after tonight's score.
- Dominic Franco also garnered a goal for the Black Knights in the contest.
- He now totals nine this season and 18 in his career. His point total improves to 48.
- It was Franco's sixth power play goal in two years.
- Nick DeCenzo notched his second assist on the weekend, while Blake Box picked up his first.
- The defensive pair combines for 14 points on the season.
- Alex Wilkinson improved his point total of the weekend to four with the primary assist on the power play goal.
- It was Wilkinson's 14th power play point of the season.
- Senior captain Tyler Pham was the other assist on the night. He also approaches 100 points in his career with 94.
- Tonight's helper marks his 14th of the season.
- Cole Bruns made 25 saves in the game.
- Taylor Maruya skated in his 100th career game for Army.
HOW IT HAPPENED
PERIOD ONE (BENTLEY 2 – ARMY 1)
- John Laurito started things off for Army with a breakaway, but his shot went wide.
- Each team earned three penalties before the halfway mark of the period, but the Black Knights were not able to score on the opportunities.
- The Falcons scored two power play goals in the period. The first coming 10:57 in.
- Army answered 46 seconds later however when Andrle took advantage of an odd rebound from Box's shot. The puck ricocheted off Aiden Pelino's stick and Andrle was able to control the puck after it returned to the ice.
- Bentley was awarded a power play with nine minutes to go after the call looked to be going the other way. The Falcons scored on the opportunity to go ahead 2-1.
PERIOD TWO (BENTLEY 2 – ARMY 1)
- Things continued to head up between the two teams during the second stanza.
- During a Bentley power play around the 10 minute mark, Bruns made a save, while Michael Wilson and Brendan Soucie both recorded blocks.
- Maruya also snagged the puck for a dump helping the Black Knights kill off the man-advantage for the Falcons.
- On Army's next power play chance, Pham set up Wilson with an open lane to the goal, but Argue was able to knock the puck away.
- To close out the frame, the Black Knights finally capitalized on the man-advantage.
- The Cadets finally capitalized on the power play with 2:00 left in the stanza.
- Wilkinson fired a shot from the slot and Franco redirected the puck into the goal past Aiden's stick side.
PERIOD THREE (BENTLEY 4 – ARMY 2)
- Maruya got Army's first shot off in the period, but hit Pelino's facemask.
- The Falcons took their third lead of the game when Jake Kauppila took advantage of a breakaway five minutes in.
- Trevor Fidler saw a chance with 6:33 remaining, but the puck was wide and play continued.
- Bruns left the net with two minutes to go and Army was not able to score with the extra forward.
- With nine seconds remaining, the Falcons scored on the empty net to put the game fully out of reach for the Cadets.
UP NEXT
- The Black Knights host Sacred Heart next Friday and Saturday for senior weekend at Tate Rink. Army will honor 11 seniors prior to Saturday's contest.
