Army Prepped For Season-Opening Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point baseball team kicks off its 2018 campaign with a neutral site three-game series against Michigan.
The two teams will meet for the first time since the 1912 season. Army owns the slim 1-0 edge on the all-time series after taking the lone meeting,12-4. This weekend's games are slated for the New York Mets spring training stadium and home of the St. Lucie Mets, First Data Field.
Friday's game time is set for 2 p.m., with first pitch on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.

- Jon Rosoff was selected to the Preseason All-Patriot League team after leading the team in numerous categories last season, including a .362 batting average, which was tops of the conference.
- The Durham, N.C., native also led the team in hits (71 – second in the conference), runs (43 – fourth in the league), slugging percentage (.454), and on-base percentage (.464 – first in the conference).
- 2017 Patriot League Coach of the Year Jim Foster returns all-league starting pitcher Tyler Giovinco (4-5, 4.17 ERA, 69.0 IP) as well from a squad that advanced to the postseason just a year ago for the first time since 2014.
- The Black Knights also have junior shortstop Josh White (.256 BA, 3 HR, 21 RBIs), junior third baseman Trey Martin (.265 BA, 4 HR, 19 RBIs) and junior outfielder Matt Hudgins (.253 BA, 7 HR, 34 RBIs) back in the lineup.
- Joining Giovinco on the mound will be Sam Messina (3 saves, 36 SOs), Cam Opp (4-2 record, 39.1 IP), Carter Van Gytenbeek (4 saves, 42 SOs), and Jacob Carte (47.1 IP, 38 SOs).

- Army will travel to Fordham on Wednesday for a midweek single game against the Rams beginning at 3 p.m.
- The Black Knights then remain on the road for another three-game weekend series at Maryland from Feb. 23-25.
- Friday's contest is slated for 4 p.m. and Saturday's is set for 2 p.m. before the teams close out the set with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
