HOW IT HAPPENED
- After failing to make any shots from long range in their last game, the Black Knights came out against American and knocked down a pair on three tries in the opening frame. However, the Eagles had an efficient first quarter of play, connecting on over 50 percent of their shots, including three from deep to grab a 21-16 advantage.
- In the second quarter, Army collected five offensive rebounds and forced four American turnovers, but despite generating 10 more shot attempts, were outscored 17-12. The Eagles buried 50 percent of their attempts from the field and did some damage at the charity stripe, getting to the line 10 times in the quarter.
- Following a Libby Tacka three with 3:17 left in the second, Army trailed by a single point. American's lead grew after a 9-0 run spanned the remainder of the half and the team went into the break leading 38-28.
- The Black Knights' defense picked up in the third quarter and forced six American turnovers. The Eagles were held to seven points on 3-of-14 shooting. At the 9:08 mark, Murray went off for six straight points to bring Army within five before Janae McNeal found the bottom of the basket on a layup to cap an 8-0 run.
- American's lead was trimmed down to one with 2:35 remaining in the quarter after a Destinee Morris layup, but the Eagles responded with a 15-0 run that ran through the remainder of the third most of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 16, 56-40.
- Army was held scoreless through the opening six minutes of the fourth and American held on to its double-digit lead en route to the league victory.
