Army Kicks Off 2018 at UNC Duals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point wrestling team returns to the mat after a 34-day hiatus to compete at the UNC Duals on Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Black Knights will start off against Duke at 9 a.m. before taking on Wyoming at 6 p.m. They close out the day against the hosting Tar Heels, who are ranked 23rd in the most recent InterMat poll, at 8 p.m.
ARMY (0-1, 0-0 EIWA)
• This will be Army's first dual since traveling to Penn State on Nov. 9 and its third-straight season with a dual tournament.
• Cael McCormick will look to make his season debut this weekend.
• McCormick owns a perfect 3-0 mark against UNC, Duke and Wyoming, including a pair of bonus point wins over Tar Heels.
• Noah Stewart, Taylor Brown and Lane Peters all sport a team-high eight bonus point wins.
• Stewart leads the squad with five technical falls, while Brown's five major decisions is the most for the Black Knights.
• Army's last win over North Carolina came at the 1991-92 Penn State Duals with an 18-16 victory.

• Army has won both meetings with Wyoming in the all-time series, including an 18-12 upset victory over the 23rd-ranked Cowboys last season at the American Duals.
• The other meeting came during the 2001-02 season when the Black Knights captured a 21-17 decision at the Virginia Duals.
• The Cowboys are coming off a 20-15 setback against No. 3 Oklahoma State on Dec. 19.
• In the final match of the dual, then-third-ranked 141-pounder Bryce Meredith outlasted top-ranked Dean Heil, 2-1, after earning an escape in the third overtime period.
• The win by Meredith halted a streak of 55-straight victories for the two-time defending national champion.
