Army Poised for Return to All-Academies

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point wrestling team will compete in its first tournament of the calendar year at the All-Academy Championships, hosted by the Citadel, on Saturday from the McAlister Field House.
The tournament is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., while the finals are slated to start at 5:30 p.m.

ARMY (1-6, 0-3 EIWA)
• Army has won the tournament four times since its inception in the 1994-95 season: 1995-96, 2007-08, 2015-16 and 2016-17.
• The Black Knights are looking to become the first team to win three-straight All-Academy Championship titles since Navy won six in-a-row from 2008-09 to 2013-14.
• Last season, Trey Chalifoux, Russ Parsons and Trevor Smith won individual titles, while Austin Harry, Logan Everett, Andrew Mendel, Ben Harvey and Samson Imonode earned runner-up finishes.
• A total of 43 Black Knights have won individual championships in the tournament's 23-year history, with the most coming from 141 and 149 lbs. with seven champions each.
• Six cadet-athletes will be making their All-Academies debut: Lane Peters, Will Lucie, Lucas Weiland, Noah Stewart, Rocco Caywood and Bobby Heald.
• Of the returners, all four have placed at the tournament, including two champions.
• Rookie Taylor Brown leads the team with 14 wins, 11 bonus point victories, five pins and six major decisions.

THE FIELD
• The field will consist of the usual eight service academies from across the country: Air Force, Army, The Citadel, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Navy, Norwich and VMI.
• Air Force's freshman 184-pounder, Jimmy Weaver, leads the Falcons with 14 wins.
• Sophomore AJ Aeberli (174 lbs.) and junior Nick Remke (165 lbs.) of the Coast Guard are tied for the team lead in wins with records of 21-4 and 21-7, respectively.
• Freshman Kieran Duggan's mark of 19-10 is the best for Merchant Marine, including six falls, four technical falls and three major decisions.
• Jadaen Bernstein, Navy's 8th-ranked 174-pounder, is 15-3 in his senior campaign and has advanced to the All-Academy Championships finals in his first three seasons.
• VMI's Blake Hohman is 12-11 on the season with four wins, one technical fall and two major decisions.
