PHOENIX, Md. – Army West Point Noto Family Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Kristen Skiera was inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Greater Baltimore Chapter Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Skiera, formerly Kristen Waagbo, began her stellar career at Mt. Hebron High School where she led the team to four consecutive state titles. She was named Baltimore Sun Female Athlete of the Year, twice (2002 & 2003) and was the All-Metro Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year as a senior in 2003.
"I am very honored to be inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame," Skiera said. "There are so many legendary players, coaches and influencers of the game in this Hall fo Fame - many of which I have been fortunate enough to be coached by and play alongside. I love the camaraderie, competition and opportunities that the sport of lacrosse provides. I feel very lucky that after 23 years, the sport continues to be such a huge part of my life. My appreciation for these opportunities it has afforded me and my family continues to deepen."
The Vikings won four state titles and lost only one game during her four years. They were ranked No. 1 by The Sun every week of her career. While at Mt. Hebron, Skiera was the Howard County Player of the Year as a junior in 2002, and Howard County co-Player of the Year in 2003. In her sophomore season she was a second-team All-Metro and named Greater Baltimore regional All-American as a junior. In 2003, she was a member of the U.S. Under-19 team winning the World Championships.
A two-sport athlete in high school, Skiera was also a dominating basketball player at Mt. Hebron. In 2002, she propelled the Vikings to their first Howard County championship since 1993. She was a second-team All-Metro pick in her sophomore season and a first-team All-Metro pick her junior year. Moving onto Duke University, Skiera proved to be a gifted attacker earning third-team All-American honors her junior year (2006) and was a Tewaaraton Award nominee the same year.
As a senior, she made the All-America first-team and was a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award. She guided the Blue Devils to four regular season Atlantic Coast Conference crowns, one ACC Tournament title and three NCAA Final Four appearances. She was named Player of the Week multiple times for the ACC, WomensLax.com, and Inside Lacrosse.
She is Duke's all-time career assists leader with 116 and tallied 277 points over four seasons, ranking second all-time records. She is tied for fourth on Duke's all-time career goals with 161. Skiera was inducted into the Howard County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Skiera and the Black Knights begin their season on Feb. 10 when the team travels to Monmouth.
