HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the first quarter ended with Holy Cross leading by three, 16-13, the Crusaders put in the first five points of the second to extend their lead. However, the Black Knights responded by outscoring the Crusaders, 15-2, in the final 6:47 of the frame. The two sides went into the break with Army on top, 28-23.
- Both teams displayed a poor shooting performance in the third as Holy Cross connected on just 29 percent of its shots, while Army made just three of its nine attempts from the field. The Crusaders did bury a pair of long balls, but the Black Knights maintained their lead by getting to the free throw line and sinking four foul shots.
- In the final quarter of regulation, Holy Cross' offense turned it around as the team shot 8-of-12 form the field. On the other end, the Black Knights continued to struggle offensively, but once again found success at the charity stripe, knocking down eight-of-10 attempts.
- With 5:40 left to play, Holy Cross trailed by four, 46-42, after a Tricia Byrne 3-point shot went in. That make sparked a 13-4 Crusader run and Holy Cross grabbed a two-point advantage with 50 seconds remaining in the game.
- Shortly after, McNeal made the game-tying basket and neither side scored again in the closing seconds of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
- In the overtime period, Holy Cross led by six after a Lauren Manis jumper at the 2:26 mark. Army was unable to overcome the deficit as the Crusaders went to the line 14 times and made 10 foul shots the rest of the way, while the Black Knights failed to convert on enough 3-point tries to put a dent into the Holy Cross lead.
