ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Head coach Dave Magarity coached in his 1,000th career game.
- Murray extended her Patriot League double-digit scoring streak to six games (the longest of her career).
- She posted her fourth double-double of the season and 13th of her career.
- The senior had four steals, tying her season-high.
- Hovren tallied double-digit boards for the 28th time in her career.
- With her 11 boards, she moved to 17th all-time at West Point in career rebounds.
- Jess Lewis made her first start since Jan. 28, 2017 and scored her first points of the season.
- Army collected 16 offensive rebounds.
- The Black Knights did not allow the Midshipmen to make a single 3-pointer in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After starting the game by connecting on three of their first five shots, the Black Knights fell into an offensive drought and went 1-for-11 the rest of the way. Navy also experienced some shooting woes in the opening frame and the two sides went into the second quarter with 10 points apiece.
- The Midshipmen used an 11-0 run that spanned the opening 6:43 of the second to move ahead 21-10. Army's scoring drought ended once Morgann Yancey buried a shot from long range to trim the deficit to single digits. Army and Navy would trade baskets for the remainder of the half and go into the break with the Midshipmen on top, 25-17.
- It was a sloppy first half with both sides combining to turn the ball over 18 times and shoot 30 percent from the field. Navy did most of its damage from down low, posting 18 points from the inside the paint.
- Navy began to pull away in the third after getting out to a 13-2 run that featured a pair of 3-pointers by Hannah Fenske and five points from Taylor Dunham. The Navy lead was pushed to over 20 late in the quarter after the Midshipmen pieced together a 9-2 run to go ahead 47-25. To close out the quarter, the Black Knights countered with a 7-2 run to bring the deficit back under 20.
- For the quarter, Navy went 10-of-12 (83.3%) from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from long range.
- In the fourth, the Midshipmen's large lead was holding strong until Tacka put in five straight points to cut the Navy lead to 14. However, the Midshipmen used a 15-2 run with Dunham responsible for 10 of her team's points to extend its lead and eventually capture the win.
