ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MEET NOTES
"We traveled to the Houston area this weekend to take advantage of the long weekend to get some quality competition across multiple days," said head coach Mike Smith. "So most of our sprint, jump, and throw people competed at the University of Houston today and will compete again tomorrow at Texas A&M. The A&M meet is a scored meet and we do fairly well in that format, so we entered our teams with the objective of trying to be as competitive as possible in as many events as possible."
"The group at Houston had some nice seasonal improvements today and some great 2018 opening marks. I thought Kenneth Brinson did a great job of competing in the weight throw. He got off the plane last weekend and threw ok at the Wagner meet and today, with a few more days of practice, he nearly matched his lifetime best in the weight throw. He is a special talent and I suspect this strong early season mark is a sign of bigger things to come for him."
"Lee Bares won the vault at Houston today. He won't be pleased with the mark, but a win is a win and he is good at managing the event and coming out on top. We had a few other nice marks but those marks stood out for me."
"Our distance men did a nice job at Texas A&M tonight in the DMR and the 5k, and we are in the lead in the team standings going into tomorrow. We came out here to raise the competitive level of our team and I am sure we will be up against some great talent tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing more improvements from the entire team tomorrow as we get started with the second day of the Texas A&MÂ meet. The competitive level will go up quite a bit, so our guys will need to be ready to perform."Â
