Black Knights Rout Providence to Cap Weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y. – For the second week in a row, the Army West Point volleyball team topped its BIG EAST opponent in tournament play. The Black Knights defeated Providence Saturday night in three-straight sets to improve to 7-6 on the season. Â

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- The Black Knights boasted a .435 hitting percentage as a team compared to the Friars' .202 and had a 7-1 block advantage in the game.
- For the third time this weekend, Bockrath led Army with a 17 kill performance and 20.5 points as the only player with double-digit kills. She was nearly perfect at the net with a .600 hitting percentage, 2.5 blocks and even added a service ace.
- Amber Clay notched nine kills in the match and added nine digs. Jaden Pickell and Vanessa Wesley each had seven kills on the night and three total blocks a piece.
- Ana Oglivie notched three service aces on the night and added eight digs and three assists.
- Haven Bethune recorded 24 assists and Nikki Lum recorded 11 helpers, seven digs and two service aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED SET ONE (25-19 Army)
- The Black Knights took a 12-7 lead over Providence after a 6-0 run with Bockrath and Oglivie earning points in the stretch.
- To close-out the set, Army posted back-to-back blocks first from Bockrath and Clay and then from Wesley and Pickell. Lum then recorded an ace and Wesley had a kill off a free ball at the net.
- Army hit .400 in the first set and had 2.0 blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED SET TWO (25-17 Army)
- In the second set, Bethune dished out 10 assists and connected mostly with Bockrath who had six kills.
- The team hit .519 in the set with four Black Knights hitting over .500.
- Army reached the 20 point mark off a 5-1 run fueled by back-to-back blocks by Wesley.
- Two of the final three points for the Cadets was produced by an ace by Oglivie and by a kill from Bockrath.
HOW IT HAPPENED SET THREE (25-18 Army)
- Army went ahead early in the final set of the match which featured no lead changes, but one tie score.
- The Black Knights closed-out play with a slew of points from its upper classmen. On an offset play, Pickell recorded a kill off an assist from Wesley before Bockrath and Pickell combined for a block.
- Bockrath finished the set with five kills and two block assists.
UP NEXT
- Army will begin Patriot League play next Friday and Saturday on the road at Bucknell and Lafayette.
